Nearly all carpet manufacturers recommend steam cleaning or hot water extraction as the best method available for deep cleaning carpets.

This method involves spraying a water detergent on the carpet, followed by a high pressure, hot water rinse, and high-powered vacuum extraction of the water, detergent, and soil in the carpet fibers.

All other cleaning methods are considered to be light surface cleaning since they do not remove the soil deposited deep in the carpet pile.

3M Scotchgard is justly famous for providing one of the best forms of protection against all manner of stains - water-based, oily, or dry soil.

Fabrics treated with Scotchgard are easier to clean and resist staining. After treatment with Scotchgard, if an application of our HomePro spot cleaner doesn't lift the stain, we'll then (for 1-year after our Scotchgard application) attempt to remove the stains or spots at no charge!

Sorry, paint spills and pet accidents are excluded from this offer.

Vacuuming

Vacuuming cannot wear out your carpet or upholstery, but soil can. Even with entry mats, eventually, dirt and grit can become embedded in your carpet’s fibers. When that happens, your carpet will become discolored and matted. Up to 80% of the soil in carpet is of the dry particulate type that can be removed with a vacuum cleaner.

Daily vacuuming is recommended for high-traffic areas. Make seven passes of the vacuum cleaner over each section of carpet. For light-traffic areas, vacuum weekly with three passes over each carpet section.

The best vacuum for carpeted areas is one with a beater bar or rotating brush and powerful suction. Be sure to adjust the vacuum for the height of your carpet. Deep brush agitation may damage loop-pile Berber carpet. Also, check the vacuum bag regularly, and change it when it is half full for the most effective cleaning. And remember to replace worn belts and brushes in the maintenance cycle recommended by your vacuum manufacturer.

Using Entry Mats

Think of entry mats as a simple way to protect your investment. If you use them, you will track much less dirt and sand onto your new carpet. It not only keeps your carpet looking cleaner, but it also helps protect the fibers from abrasion and dulling. Keeping dirt away from your carpet is the best way to maintain its appearance and value.

HomePro Spotter

It will help you remove:

Blood, ketchup, chocolate, pet stains, shoe polish (most), coffee, cosmetics, crayon, grime, iodine, latex paint, liquor, food, tea, urine, washable ink, mildew, oil, cola, baby formula, candy, chocolate milk, clay, cologne, fruit juices, felt marker, furniture polish, graphite, ice cream, jelly, milk, soil spots, soft drinks, syrup, watercolors, watermelon, and vomit.

Use a spoon or dull knife to remove solid materials. For liquid spills, blot up with a white towel or paper towel.

1. For large stains, work from the outside of stains to the center to prevent spreading
2. Test HomePro Spotter first on fiber in an inconspicuous area for color-fastness and texture change
3. Apply HomePro Spotter directly to the stained/soiled area. Avoid saturating the fiber. For upholstery or delicate fibers, apply HomePro to the white cloth first, then blot stains
4. Use a clean, white, absorbent cloth. Agitate lightly and then blot to absorb the stain into the cloth
5. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as needed
6. If stain is gone, place an absorbent white towel or paper towel over the cleaned area, and weigh towels down with a heavy, color-fast object, such as a weighted plastic wastebasket
7. Change towels or paper towels until carpet dries
8. If stain remains, proceed to step 4

Note: Some residual portions of the stain can remain. It will often disappear as the area dries. Some staining may wick and reappear during the drying process. If the stain reappears due to wicking, proceed to step 4.
